ALF run fortnightly Peer Support PoppIns across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. Please see events listings in the side bar and visit the ALF Facebook Page .
The acronym BESS stands for Buddies Empowering Self Sufficiency. The PoppIns do just this :
- Provide a safe place where peers can make new ‘buddies’ and feel socially included
- Empower peers to embrace change and build resilience
- Encourage peers to take responsibility for themselves, their health, fulfilling their needs, and achieving their full potential, by developing resilient relationships which have a healthy balance of interdependence and autonomy.
- Demonstrate Peer Support in Action by delivering high quality peer support, following the Peer Support Values and Principles
ALF is fully inclusive and aims to hold PoppIns at different times of the day, as well as at the weekends to allow peers to fit it into their schedules. ALF welcome children if you are unable to get childcare though, if you would like some free time to come to a PoppIn without your children, ALF can also sometimes arrange vetted volunteers to mind children whilst you are participating.
ALF hold regular consultations with peers to find out what you want your groups to do and how you want them to be run.
PoppIns are currently held in Luton, Dunstable, Biggleswade, and Leighton Buzzard.
